Dave and team at IT,

If I have a website already using CMSB and I want to set up a demo of CMSB for customers, using the Demo Plugin. do I need to install a second CMS Builder in a separate directory on my server and point the demo to that installation?

Hi Kurt,

From what I understand, a separate demo requires a separate license (at least for a while the "demo" license was available at a reduced rate).

Just to be safe, if I was going to go to the trouble of setting up a separate demo for my clients, I'd not only set up a separate installation, but I'd set up a totally separate set of section editors and viewers as well.

Then again, I list my religious preference as "Devout Coward"

Is there a reason that you'd want the site to be "live" and in "demo" mode at the same time?

If not, then as I understand it you can just turn on the demo mode for the site and a new temporary database will be created for each demo user.

More is avaialble at http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/CMS_Builder_F35/gforum.cgi?post=72448 and at http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/cmsbuilder/demo_mode.html

and a pretty cool demo of the demo is on-line at: http://demo2.interactivetools.com/cmsbuilder

Others may have had more experience with setting up demos and will probably weigh in with their opinions.

Best,

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. You told me exactly what I expected.

What I want is to have a demo of a 2 or 3 page sample website using CMSB on our site for our customers to try. Since I have used CMSB in developing our site, I will need to y install a 2nd CMSB license in a subdirectory off of the root of my web site to run the demo pages correct.

Are there any gotcha's I need to look out for in having 2 CMSB installs on the website.

Hi Kurt,

Nope, it should run just fine -- just make sure they're in different directories, and are using different databases (or at least, different prefixes in the same database.) :)

That demo license can still be purchased at 75% off with the promo code CMSDEMOCOPY if you need one.
