spambot email protector odd links

I've used older versions of spambotEmailProtector on other sites. I've recently installed v2.01 spampotEmailProtector on a 2.61 CMSB. The mailto links are encrypted as desired, but if one clicks on an email address on a protected page, the email address appears in the email program as per this example:

bre<!-- pig -->n<span><!-- owm -->da<!-- alb -->@w</span>hitin<!-- ivj -->gbaybb.com<!-- teq -->

Help needed, please!
