removeDate questions

Hi, All.
I'm setting up a page that will display special offers between specified dates (publishDate and removeDate). I have a couple of questions:
1. Does removeDate delete the expired record, or just hide it? I'd like to do the latter.
2. Is it possible to have a countdown clock to show how much time remains until the offer expires? e.g. "Offer expires in 12 days, 7 hours and 35 minutes"
