Tell a Friend?

We don't have a specific plugin for Tell A Friend but I agree with you that it should be pretty straight forward.  My idea is that we have a simple textfield on the article page somewhere with a submit button that says "Tell A Friend". A site visitor fills that field out and hits the button. This will trigger off an email to the address entered and we hook it into an email template on the back end so you can customize what is sent.  We could also add in a "comment" just so the visitor has the option of adding their own message like "Hey Bill, check out this great post I just read".
