Need to change single record section to multi

Over time, I have occasionally needed to change a section from a single record to multi record table.  Usually there are only a couple of fields to deal with so I just recreate the section from scratch as a multi record.  I now have a single record section with tons of fields that needs to be converted.  I do not have to convert any data, just the schema. 

Can I simply create a multi record section, download it  and copy the existing group of fields from the single record schema to the new multi record schema then upload it back or is there a better way?
