Drop down filters in advanced search

I've used drop down filters in the advanced search sections of the CMS on a number of occassions but these only seem to work on list type fields.

Would it be possible to update the software so that these drop down boxes could also display a list of all of the distinct values contained with the field that is being filtered so that it could work on textfield's as well as lists?
