Moving from Staging to Live

Hi there,

I have a staging site setup for a client e.g. staging.clientdomain.com

When everything is good to go I just want to rename the directory on the server so that the new site will replace the current site.

e.g. change directory staging.clientdomaindir to clientdomaindir

So, what is the process for changing the server paths in the cms and any image paths that may be in the database?

Just want to get a heads up so that this goes smoothly.

Many thanks
Jan

Hi Jan

Thanks for posting!

The main thing for changing paths after you've setup the site already is going to be the images you've uploaded through CMS Builder. The paths for those would need to be updated in the database directly which can be a little tricky depending on how your server is setup.

Would you be ok with upload the images again? Or have you already put a lot of work into getting the content perfect?

It's going to be a matter of deciding what's easier, uploading all the images again or manually updating the paths to them in your database?

Let me know what you think :).

OK great, so I:

1. change the path in the cms admin
2. change the directory name on server
3. update image paths in database (phpmyadmin)

Many thanks
Jan
