Cross-Linked Sections

I am in the process of planning a new site thats going to incorporate a significant amount of cross linking between a few different sections. And I am running some cmsb tests to make sure that we will be able to do what we're suggesting to the end-client. Here is the run down...

There will four cross-linked sections:
- Lawyers
- Practice Areas
- News
- Resources

On each lawyer detail page, I will need to link to each practice area, news and resource that they are associated with.

The same will also happen on the other detail pages, ie... on a practice area detail we want to include links to all associated lawyers, news and resources.

From the CMS side, I am planning to set it up like this:

Lawyer
- select check boxes next to all associated practice areas

Practice Area
- no selecting will take place here

News
- select associated lawyers
- select associated practice areas

Resources
- select associated lawyers
- select associated practice areas

For the related links on each detail page, I need to be able to display more than just a linked title to the other sections. I am going to need to be able to display several other fields. Any help, suggestions or guidance is appreciated.

Hi there.

Thanks for posting!

I am actually going to need some more details on this one as I am having a hard time visualizing what you want to setup.

Could you post some sample pages for me to take a look at? Thanks!

I have attached wireframes of three of the detail pages. Let me know if you need additional info or clarification.

Hi.

Thanks for the screenshots. I am going over them and thinking up some options for you :).

I am curious how much of the CMS Builder stuff you have setup already though. Have you already created the sections? Do you have any of the basic list pages coded? Or are we still talking theory right now?

I just want to know how much detail to go into at this stage one we have some options.

Thanks!

We're just talking theory at this point. I really want to make sure this can be done before I go too much further. I think if you can get me started with a section or two, I will be able to figure out the logic and apply it to the other sections.

I have a few sections setup for testing purposes.

Just checking to see if you've had any luck with this? Should I request a rapid response ticket?

Hi

There are definitely going to be some options for you. The best place to start though is going to be with your templates and the basic sections. Do you already have that setup?

At this stage, don't put too much effort into adding content as it's possible we'll have to delete it all anyway. Just make sure you have your templates (without the PHP, just HTML) done and the sections created.

Let me know when we are done that step and we'll start talking code.

Thanks!

Ok, I am ready. Now what?

Hi

The next step will be to get the basic code working. That would be the main list of records on each of your template pages.

Don't worry about bringing in the content from other sections just yet.

Just set up each of your pages with the basic viewer code.

Does that make sense? Keep me up to date with how you are making out :).
