Image captions using WYSIWYG

I've been reading lots of posts on here trying to figure out how to get captions under images. It looks like the answer is to "upload" the images separately instead of simply adding them using the WYSIWYG editor. I'm concerned that may be a little confusing for the end user who will ultimately be adding articles to the site I'm developing. Is it possible to just allow them to add captions to images that they place using WYSIWYG?

Hi Tony,

There's no automatic way to add captions with the wysiwyg, but you can add them when you have an upload field and display them below.

How do you want your uploads to display? Do you have a mockup url or example that shows the layout or format you're going for?

Hi Tony,

There's no simple way to do that in the wysiwyg yet other than manually creating a table (by clicking the table button) and adding the caption below the photo.

I did a bit of research and it looks like the wysiwyg has a feature to add a list of code "snippets" or "templates" that the user can then insert. There's some doc pages on that here: http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/TinyMCE:Plugins/template

And you can see a demo here (try the 5th last button on the bottom row): http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/example_full.php

We haven't dived into that yet, but it looks like a good long term solution. Then the user could click to insert a box that is preformatted with a space to insert an image and a caption.
