Hey Dave -

Is it possible to have an events calendar that an end user (web surfer) can update and add dates to? I run a blues society and we would love for a form to be able to let bands and venues add/edit/delete their own dates, let us approve and post them etc.

I am pretty CMS builder doesn't do that sort of functionality but maybe we can talk custom work or you know of a script that does?

I have purchased but not yet used my first copy of CMS Builder but I am very excited to shortly!
Best,
Lenny

Hi lterenzi,

Do you want the events displayed in calendar format (weekly grid) or would a list of events work? Event list will be easier.

Because I'm thinking that you could just create an events section and then use the search features to only show events from certain dates. See http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/cmsbuilder/viewer_search.html

So for example if you have events.php that listed all your events you could use this to list events in January:

events.php?date_year=2008&date_month=1

Do you have a mockup of what you would like it to look like? That would be the next step. Then we can figure out how to make your mockup work with CMS Builder. :)

Hi Dave -

In case there was any confusion we dont use CMS Builder yet for this site but I am pushing it hard on the board. [:)]

a list format would be the way to go.

http://www.triangleblues.com/sections/calendar/calendar.php

Scroll down to this text:
M O R E* G R E A T *M A Y* E V E N T S

That is what I want an end-user to be able to enter / edit / delete themselves so we can have the burden of maintaining the calendar taken off us somewhat.

I cannot wait to get into using CMS Builder... I think I am going to buy a personal copy just I can start playing with it and really get into learning it before I code it into a clients site.

Best,
Lenny

Ok, that should be pretty straightforward. Basically you'd just need fields for: date, title, description (you could use more fields if you wanted) and then sort them by date in descending order.

Give it a try creating an editor and viewer for that and let me know if you get stuck anywhere along the way and I'll help you out. :)
