Video Uploading and File Converting Script

I have a CMS Builder site where more and more of the content is becoming video. The video equipment owned by the site's users records video in a variety of formats which makes for a messy website. Training the users to convert files to a standard format before uploading just isn't going to happen- it's above their heads.

Has there been any work done to integrate CMS Builder with a video uploader that also uses FFMPEG, Mencoder, etc for server side file conversion and thumbnail generation for use with a H.264 video player like Flowplayer?

Thanks, Sid

Hi sidcam,

We haven't done any work in that direction as it's difficult to know how much raw power a server has to dedicate to re-encoding video that's uploaded - both youtube and facebook have whole farms dedicated to video processing (granted they are dealing with a lot more video than anyone else) and having a plugin to convert video uploaded on the fly could have unexpected results for end users, especially if they don't have direct access to their server settings (if they're on a shared server, for example).

We could look into making a custom plugin for this purpose and see how it develops, but that would require someone to pay for the development time.

Unless there are others out there who would like to see a similar plugin and have the time and skill to build one....
