Can the Comments Plugin be used for Private Note Taking?

By sidcam - August 10, 2012 - edited: August 10, 2012

Is it possible to use the comments plugin to allow members to keep private notes on records (i.e the comments are only visable to the member who created them when they're logged in to see them)? I basically want to allow people to keep notes on saved favorites.

Also, is it possible to have multiple instances of comments on one page (i.e. one install for private note taking and another for comments that are shared with all)?

Thanks, Sid

Hi Sid,

Yes, you can have multiple instances of the comments plugin on a single page.

There are a couple of ways you can do the "private" notes implementation:

1) you can use a custom theme for that instance that filters out comments not created by the currently logged in user.

2) Have it associate comments with records that are specific to the user. For example, if you associate a comment with a saved favorite record, that should only be specific to the person who's logged in. Others won't be able to see their favorite list, so they wouldn't see associated comments either.

Hope this helps
