CSV Import questions - upload images?

By weblm - January 26, 2012

Looking at getting the CSV Import addon module and have a few questions:

1) Can you specify images to be imported?

2) If yes, assume the images have to be uploaded to the server before hand?

3) Do you design your records first, then use the CSV Import to map to that section?

4) Can the CSV Import upload to different sections our install?

Hello Kevin,

The CSV Importer plugin adds the data from a CSV to a viewer of your choice, allowing you to set the mapping of CSV:Fieldname->CMSB:Viewer:Fieldname.

To answer your questions in order:

1) + 2) You can specify the filenames to be added to a text field but this will not upload the files (so you could upload the files to a particular location and then provide a url to reach them for example - however the files would still not be in the CMSB uploads table, nor would they have thumbnails created etc).

3) It is best to create the viewer first as you will need to select a viewer to import to. CSV importer does support creating new fields in a viewer if the CSV has fields that the viewer does not (when in the Map Fields step, select <create new field> for those fields you want to import that don't have a corresponding field in the viewer).

4) The CSV Importer can upload to any section of a CMSB install (I think that's what you were asking...)

NOTE CSV Importer does not perform uploads on image files (or any other files), it only copies the string value of a field. In order to add an image to a record you would have to go into that record and select the image(s) for upload manually.

I hope that helps,

Tom
