Quickstart

Welcome to CMS Builder! Follow these instructions and in minutes you’ll be running your site with your own customized content management system.

  1. Install CMS Builder

Upload CMS Builder to your server (both the zip’s cmsb/ and uploads/ folders) and run the One Minute Install. See Installation for the full steps. If you’d rather not do it yourself, you can order an installation and one of our Product Specialists will do it for you.

  2. Branding (optional)

Replace the CMS Builder branding with your own company name and logo so the CMS Admin presents as your own product. See Branding.

  3. Create a content section

Log in to CMS Builder and go to CMS Setup > Database Editor. Click the Add New Editor button, then pick a preset that matches the kind of content you’re managing (news, staff listings, a single page, etc.), or choose Multi or Single Record, and click Create New Menu. Your new section appears in the navigation menu. See Adding a New Editor for the available menu types.

  4. Add content

Click your new section in the menu. For multi-record sections, click Create, fill in the fields, and save. Single-page sections just need content added and saved.

  5. Generate viewers

Go to CMS Setup > Code Generator, choose your section, and generate the viewer code: a List Page and Detail Page for multi-record sections (or a Combo Page combining both in one file), or a single Detail Page for single-page sections. Copy the generated code into PHP files on your site and adjust the HTML to match your design. See Working With Generated Code for what each part of the code does.

  6. Explore

That’s it. Your content is live. Browse the rest of this documentation for field types, viewer options, and advanced features, or visit the forum if you get stuck.
