1. Order Now for Lifetime Free Upgrades - Ends August 3rd!
Order Now for Lifetime Free Upgrades - Ends August 3rd! There'll be a change in our upgrade policy after August 3rd. We wanted to make sure to give you advance notice so you could take advantage of the current licensing, so here’s a quick note so you know what's exactly happening.

Any purchase made before August 3rd will include free upgrades - FOREVER! This will always apply no matter what changes we make to our upgrade policy. Those purchases came with free upgrades and we'll never take that away.

After August 3rd we're changing this to 90 days of free upgrades with each purchase (as above this doesn't affect your previous purchases). So any new upgrades within 90 days of your purchase will be available for free. We don't want you to be left out if you happen to buy a few days before a major update! :)

If you want to receive unlimited free upgrades with any of your licenses, now is the best time to take full advantage of this. After August 3rd lifetime free upgrades will be discontinued.

Everything else - great products and great service, remains the same.
2. Ross Report - Google Maps 2.0 And Listings Manager - by Ross Fairbairn
Ross Report: Google Maps 2.0 And Listings Manager - by Ross Fairbairn Hello everybody,

This month's Ross Report covers the very latest from Google Maps. Google always finds great ways to improve the tools they offer. The new Google Maps is much more powerful than the last one and includes so many great new features.

As always, I have outlined all the steps in a brand new tutorial.

The best part of the new Google Maps is that you don’t need to enter the longitudes and latitudes anymore. This definitely opens the doors for a lot more ideas. Have a read through and let me know what you think. :)
3. Coach's Corner: Listings Manager Tabs - by Mike "Coach" Briggs
Coach's Corner: Listings Manager Tabs - by Mike Briggs This time around I've got a tutorial outlining how you can put navigation tabs in your listing detail pages with Listings Manager.

When someone goes to a detailed listing page on your site they'll see tabs that let them more easily navigate through your content. This means you can have separate tabs for Listing Details, Photos, Location Map, Mortgage Calculator, etc., on your listing page.

This tutorial outlines how you can integrate a navigation-tab script from DynamicDrive with Listings Manager's _publish_listing.html template. If you're looking for some really slick navigation on your listing pages using a bit of CSS you'll want to have a look at this tutorial!
4. Ask Donna: Making Design Easier With Bookmarklets - by Donna Brown
Ask Donna: Making Design Easier With Bookmarklets - by Donna Brown Donna,

I'm not a total HTML dunce, but I often get confused while working with complicated table layouts. How can I sort things out so that I can figure out where each table cell is, or how everything is laid out?

-Lost in Tables

Dear Tables,

One of the things we're often asked to help out with is debugging people's sites. "Why is this image showing up way over there?" or "Where did that table cell go?" or just plain "How the heck is this site laid out, anyway!?" While every design has its pitfalls, I've found some extremely useful tools in the form of bookmarklets (or "favelets" for the Internet Explorer crowd.) Specifically, these little snippets of JavaScript give highlighting to certain areas of your site when run from your Bookmarks/Favorites menu.

For example, take the following two screenshots. The first is a default Article Manager page with a few articles in it. It's pretty hard to see where all of the different tables are, and how they relate to one another. But! Use the "show all table cells" bookmarklet, and now you can see exactly where all of the tables are.

Since a bookmarklet is just a little snippet of Javascript that you can run on any page, it can be used to do almost anything. The "show table cells" bookmarklet is the one that I use most commonly, but there are plenty of other uses, lile validating your HTML to W3 standards, resizing your window to see how it will look on different systems, temporarily disabling your stylesheets, checking for dead links, highlighting div tags...the sky is the limit!

To use a bookmarklet, you simply need to take a link and add it as a bookmark. Once it's in your bookmarks or favorites list, you can select it from the menu as if it were a regular bookmark. For more instructions, here's a tutorial on how to set this up.

Here are some of my favorite sites for favelets/bookmarklets: I hope this helps! If you have any feedback or questions, feel free to email me, or discuss this in the online forums.

Cheers!
Donna

5. Useful Resources For Developers
Useful Resources For Developers Here are a couple of great resources that can give you great results in a very small package: both have been designed to use a minimum amount of code for faster loading and easy set up.

Drop Down Menus Horizontal Style
If you've ever taken the time to create a drop down menu (or even customize a free one) you might have been overwhelmed with the insane amount of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML. I sure have! For people annoyed by mass amounts of code, this tutorial is the answer. Read through, and learn how to easily create an eye catching drop down menu using a minimum of HTML and JavaScript.

LiteBox
In a previous newsletter I linked to a post that explained how to set up the Lightbox JavaScript snippet with Listings Manager. Lightbox makes it possible for users to click a listing's thumbnail image and instead of opening the full-size image in a new window (or a popup), the image opens elegantly as another layer on the current page. You can actually see how we've used this in the Realty Manager online demo.

Recently, an updated version of Lightbox was released, cleverly named "Litebox". Litebox was created with one thing in mind, size reduction. This means less code on your server, faster load times, and it's easier to set up. Check it out to see some examples of it in action.
6. Project Chela Update
Project Chela Update A few months ago, in early May, I wrote about Project Chela, a top-secret birthday surprise Dave (our fearless leader) was planning for his girlfriend, Chela (CHAY-luh). The scheme was to get people to send in photos of themselves and their friends holding up a birthday message. He'd later turn these photos into an album which he would surprise her with on her birthday.

The good news, it was a huge success, receiving tons of photos from all over the WORLD: Dallas, Las Vegas, Canada, New Zealand, even Vietnam and Cambodia! Check out projectchela.com to see all the photos, learn about the outrageous way the final gift was wrapped, and much more.
