1. Listings Manager Special - Save $30 (One Week Only)
Listings Manager Special Welcome to another exciting and action-packed issue of the interactivetools newsletter. I'm going to start things off by introducing our current special.

For the next week (until October 19th) Listings Manager (or Realty Manager/Auto Manager) will be priced at just $269. That means you'll save a total of $30. You can even save $120 on top of the regular 5-pack discount for a combined savings of $420. That's a lot of money to save!

If you're not exactly sure what Listings Manager does, it's really quite simple. Listings Manager is perfect for your realty site, auto classifieds, or just showcasing your products online. We'll even install it for free! To learn more about which Listings Manager product will work best for your project just visit one of the links below.

2. Internet Explorer and Tabbed Browsing
Internet Explorer I'm a little bit of a loner here when it comes to my web browser of choice. Everyone here and their dog uses Firefox. As for me, I still use Internet Explorer.

Cliff and Damon often ask "Why do you still use IE? Firefox is where it's at. Look, tabbed browsing, and it does all these other cool things!". I've even gone as far as to change the skin on IE so it looks a little more firefox-ish, but what it really comes down to is I actually like IE better! I don't know why, I just do. :)

So this might come as old news to some of you, but it's new for me, and hopefully it'll finally silence the critics. Users of IE now have tabbed browsing!

With the latest release of Microsoft's MSN Search Toolbar IE users can now use tabs to switch between websites within the same browser window. You will no longer need a browser open for each site you're visiting.

Unlike Firefox it doesn't support middle-clicking (in Firefox, the middle mouse button opens a new tab in the background). I found that holding down the Alt key when you click gave the same effect.

If, like me, you're still using IE and you want tabbed browsing, then all you need to do is download the new MSN Search Toolbar. Sure, it froze up the browser the first time I used it, but since then it's worked perfectly.
3. A Case Of Mistaken Identity
A Case Of Mistaken Identity Every now and then we get a phone call where someone has accidentally mistaken our company for another or referred to one of us by a completely different name.

Ross gets called "Ron" and "Russ", and Cliff's name is mistaken more than anyone. I overhear him on the phone, saying, "No, it’s Cliff, as in 'cliff hanger'." Cliff has been called "Chris", "Clift", "Wes", "West", "John", and strangest of all, "Quest". Cliff's fiancee even calls him "Plimpton" and no one really knows why.

One company forwarded their customers to our sales team thinking we were the number for their own orders department, while Theo often gets calls from people who believe he works for the billing department of a local cable company (his number is one off from the local cable company's).

When Theo gets these calls, there’s a moment of confusion and apologies. But once, a caller ignored Theo and the company name ("Hello, interactivetools.com, Theo here...") and launched into their story of why they thought their cable shouldn't be cut off (I'm guessing they weren't paying their bill). Eventually, Theo thought they understood that they had the wrong number.

Strangely, they called again. The third time, Theo recognized the number on call display and answered (without disguising his voice), "Hello, [removed] Cable, billing department."

Listening to their story (for the third time!), Theo explained, "I understand, mistakes do happen. But I don't have a record of your payment, and I don't have the authority to look into this more closely. Can I get my supervisor to call you back in about an hour?"

Although Theo didn't get his supervisor to call, it must have been resolved somehow: either their cable was cut off or they eventually phoned the right number. :)

Every time we talk about this, Tara loves to tell the story of how her number was one off from the pizza company back in her university days. Every few days she'd come home to an answering machine full of drunken students leaving their credit card number and pizza orders on her answering machine!

I guess you could say the moral for all of this is to listen carefully to who's answering your call. You may just end up starving and wondering where your pizza is, or why your cable has been disconnected! :)
4. Google Desktop 2.0
Google Desktop 2.0 It seems that every newsletter I write I have something to say about Google. With the amount of space I devote to Google some might be led to believe that I actually own stock in the company. Man, I wish! Honestly though, Google does come out with some pretty awesome stuff, so what better place to tell you than here?

Now Google has released a new version of their popular desktop tool, version 2 beta.

Google Desktop version 1 was great for searching anything on your personal computer in order of relevance. You could search through Outlook emails, documents, music, photos, chat history, or even your browsing history.

Now Google Desktop comes with a sidebar that can easily be customized for quick access to all sorts of personalized information. You can be notified of and read new emails, read the latest news headlines, check stock quotes, or even see how your AdSense advertisements are doing. If you want your local weather forecast or want to read RSS feeds it can do that too.

I like to use the scratch pad. The scratch pad allows you to type notes and save them for yourself. Each letter you type is instantly saved as you type it and you can always save your notes to a file and clear the Scratch Pad entirely. Give it a try. You can download the new Google Desktop here.
5. new signatures
New Signatures If you recently received an email from one of us you may have noticed that we are using new email signatures. Each signature includes a picture so you can now put faces to our names.

If you check out my picture you'll notice I'm relaxing. A couple of people have commented on this and all I can say is that this was actually a rare moment back in 2001. Ever since then I've been hard at work, only taking regular breaks. :)

Feel free to send me an email and I'll be happy to reply to you with my new signature. If you've already received a recent reply from one of us, please take a look and let me know what you think!
