Our server hosting company is suggesting that we upgrade to MariaDB 10.3. Will this sql version work with the current version of CMS?

Thanks

Hi nmsinc,

Generally yes, CMSB should work with MariaDB, as it is intended as a "drop in" replacement for MySQL. According to their documentation (https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-vs-mysql-compatibility/) MariaDB 10.3 is equivalent to MySQL 5.7 which CMSB does support. I would still recommend making a database backup and/or attempting this update on a test environment first if possible.

Hi nmsinc,

1. We are currently using version 5.6+. Can I update direct from this version to MariaDB 10.3 without moving up trhough previous versions first; such as 5.7, MariaDB 10.0, MariaDB 10.1 and so on?

Yes, directly upgrading to MariaDB 10.3 shouldn't be an issue. Or, maybe to be a bit more accurate, upgrading in steps won't really provide any benefit in this case.

2. Also, do you know if the myphpAdmin will still work with MariaDB 10.3?

As far as I know, yes - phpMyAdmin's site says it requires MariaDB 5.5 or newer (https://docs.phpmyadmin.net/en/latest/require.html)

3. I also have 6 WP sites located on this server, do you know if WP will work with MariaDB 10.3?

I don't have any direct knowledge about this, but I would assume that it does. A quick Google shows some results of people using it with WordPress, and as mentioned before, MariaDB is intended as a drop-in replacement for MySQL so it can generally be assumed to be compatible.

Hope that helps - let me know any other questions!

Thanks,

Daniel
