I've added a field to the Category table and need to add the placeholder to the template, but can't figure out what template I need to edit.

It is a Category page that is published as a Single Page using the modification in the manual.

You mentioned you have a modified category page, was this the tutorial you followed?

If so, then you're still using the default file that Article Manager uses for it's category index pages, which can be found here:

/artman2/templates/articleLists/categoryIndex.html

This should be the template that is controlling your category index pages for you and this is where you can add your placeholders. Just be sure to make a backup before you get started with this.
