Hello, today I started working with my upgraded AM 2.16 and added my first articles with this version (I was using V1.41). I thought this would be much faster than the previous version but I am quite disappointed because each time I added a new article AM2.16 checks all categories to see if there are any changes and publishes all the categories with some change on it. In my case, with 294 categories this is taking quite long.

Is this the way AM2.16 is supposed to work or am I doing something wrong? I thought AM2.16 would KNOW which category the article I just wrote belongs to and publish just the needed category instead of CHECKING EVERYTHING for new changes.

Thank you for the help you can provide.

Hi there!

Take a look at your publish rules -- specifically, the ones that create your categories -- and make sure that "always publish this rule" isn't checked. Generally, Article Manager will pick the required publish rules it needs to update everything itself, but if checked, that option will override it.

I hope this helps!

Hello Donna, the option is NOT selected, the problem is that AM checks for changes on ALL categories and in my case there are 294 categories so each time I publish an article it takes forever causing a lot of load to my server and of course this also prevents me to have all my people uploading articles at the same time, they have to say each other "I am going to save". I thought AM2.16 would be better engineered to allow multiple authors and big sites to be more productive, having a boolean kind of variable that marks each category that needs to be updated each time an article is created would have been much better than having to go through all categories checking if something needs to be updated. OR, perhaps I am doing something wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong as mine does it as well!

Hi svsanchez,

Because of Article Manager's flexible template system, it's possible that content on unrelated category pages might need to be updated which is why Article Manager checks each page each time. The only thing that I could suggest would be to disable your category publishing rules until you'd like to add content to your site.

Hi Fariba,

Thanks for posting. [:)]

What I meant above is that you can disable your publishing rules while you add articles to the site. Once you have several articles saved in the system which are ready to be published, you can enable the appropriate publishing rules and complete the publishing process for all of the articles at the same time, rather than having them publish one by one.

I hope that's a bit more clear!

Jake,

Is there a way to have "publish all" to run as a scheduled task under window 2000 server? I haven't looked yet, but is there a specific script for running publishing rules.

Hi faribaa,

Thanks for your post!

While there isn't a script written to do this task specifically that I know of, but you can set up your scheduled task to hit a link like this on your site:

http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/artman2/admin.cgi?loginUsername=USERNAME&loginPassword=PASSWORD&action=loginSubmit&nextAction=publishAll

Just replace all of the appropriate information in that string, and you'll be able to re-publish the content on your site at set intervals.

Let us know if you have any other questions. [:)]
