Is it possible to turn off the publish feature while performing various set up task such as populating the categories to initially set up the site? It takes several minutes each time after I add a new category or subcategory, and I'd rather create multiple new categories then publish once to add them all.

Definitely! All you need to do is "disable" your publishing rules from the Admin > Publishing page. Simply check the checkbox at the top of the column to check all the checkboxes in from of your publishing rules, then go down to the Advanced Commands pulldown at the bottom (defaulted to "Publish selected rules") and select "Disable selected rules".

Click "go" and they'll be turned off until you enable them again.

You might even find that you're happy just turning off the categoryMenus rules: when you add or update a category, it needs to republish all menus, but it will only publish the articlePages for that category plus its parents and children.

Sorry to "reopen" someone else's old thread, but when we follow your tip of diabling all the Publishing Rules, we still get the "Publishing in Progress" dialog each time we add a new Category.

Is this supposed to happen, or is it effectively just checking to see if there are any Active rules?

Thanks
