Re: [moh3] paid memberships

By Jason - June 12, 2012

Hi,

The membership plugin doesn't have any paid membership functionality built in.

One approach you can take is when someone signs up, the creation script can set their account to disabled until a payment has been processed. You would still have to have a way of collecting and processing a payment.

Hope this helps get you started. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks

Hi Moh3,

The membership plugin is a very powerful management tool and there are a great many ways to implement special functionality into the mix, but to implement paid memberships while keeping your system secure from hackers, you'll have to use a thrird party program. I use a really handy program called Linklok for PayPal http://www.vibralogix.com/linklokipn/ Take a look at their other modules as well.linklok .

To work with paid memberships (similar my CMSB Cookbook subscriptions) I set up a payment page using PayPal and Linklok

What Linklok does is it hides the true location of my subscription signup page and only sends subscribers an encrypted link to that page after they have paid for their subscription. The link can be set to expire after any period of time (I use 24 hours).

After the new member pays for their subscription, and clicks on the signup link, the membership plugin takes over and they set up their account etc.

I also use this approach for automatic annual membership renewals.

There are many tips and tricks on using the membership plugin, and some detailed information on implementing Linklok in my CMSB Cookbook thecmsbcookbook.com

Hope that helps.
