Auto Backup by client?

Hello folks,

I have just finished setting up CMS Builder 2.4 on my client’s website. Working brilliantly! I bought and installed Auto Backup, which has to be a mandatory plugin. This too works perfectly, emailing weekly backups to my client's nominated email address.

Problem:

I want my client/s to be able to restore a backup if needed but without entering the <Admin<>General Settings> and scrolling down the settings page to make a restore. Admin area out of bounds, as too much can go wrong if a setting is altered, even inadvertently.

Possible Solution:

Why not make it that a backup can be restored from a separate page, where only the details of the backing up and restoring process is shown?

Provide the ability to check a box "auto backup" for any nominated User account, giving this account the ability to restore backups.

I think this is very important to prevent Admin indiscretions and consequently the CMS failing or even making changes to the Program name or advanced settings.

Would this be difficult to implement into CMS Builder?

I dont know if this will fit your needs, but take a look:

Auto Backup for mysql.

Maybe you can get similar features (and more) with Navicat (premiumsoft company).. but i think first one is easier for client use.

i hope it works for your job.

Hi Rod,

So you would like users to be able to restore backups from a page that is not the General Settings page. Is this correct?

So, would these be users that don't have administrative access?

The plugin doesn't directly allow for this, but it is definitely possible with some custom programming. A separate page could be set up that only allows for restoring backups. It's good to keep in mind that a restore of any backup will completely overwrite any database information currently stored, so it would be best to strictly limit who can do a restore.

If you could give some more details on what your exact requirements would be, we could look into a solution.

Hope this helps.

Yes to both your questions.

When I finish developing a website for a client I hand the reins over in case of my demise so they are not left stranded.

I wasn't thinking of customizing but the concept built into the Auto Backup as an option.

If I find myself purchasing CMS Builder on a regular basis then certainly something would need to be implemented.

At present my current client has to go into the Admin section, which I didn't really want.

Hi Rod,

The feature you're proposing is currently not supported by the Auto Backup plugin.

To create this, we're going to need some custom programming. If that's something you're interested in, please go to: http://www.interactivetools.com/hire-us/

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
