Will latest CMSB run with an old version of PHP?

We are in the proposal stages of developing a website for a client using CMS Builder. They are very insistent on staying with their current hosting provider which is a Windows platform and only has PHP Version 4.3.11.

Is it still possible to successfully install and run the latest version of CMSB?

Thanks,

Carrie

Hi Carrie

Thanks for posting!

You should be fine. CMS Builder only needs version 4.3.2 or higher. Maybe take a quick glance through the full requirements though just to double check the rest:

Thanks Ross. Just heard that the client's server has been upgraded to a later version of PHP, but good to know for future jobs.

Is version 4.3.11 a later version than 4.3.2? (I thought that the dots indicated a decimal value and that the .2 is the same value as .20)

Hi Carrie,

Yes, version 4.3.11 is later than version 4.3.2. Each number is independent of the others and are not decimals. Sometimes they even have letters in there like 5.3.0-dev.

Sometimes the programmers who make these things get a little over zealous and geek out a bit. That's why some of the code you see they start counting at 0 (not 1) and even the name PHP is actually a "Recursive Acronym" which stands for PHP Hypertext Processor. So basically it could just as easily be called ZHP. Many programmers think things like this are just hilarious. :)

Thanks for the update Dave,

Now another question about an older version of MySQL - will the latest version of CMS Builder run on MySQL Server 4.0.27?

Another different client again has this version with their hosting provider.

No, we require mySQL v4.1.7 which was released October 24, 2004 (almost 5 years ago).

MySQL v4.0.x is very old and was, in fact, end-of-life'd at the end of last year: http://www.mysql.com/about/legal/lifecycle/#calendar

Probably best if they upgrade. If they ask the host will probably have accounts available with more recent software that they can move them over to.

Hope that helps!
