I've been having some issues publishing lately.

"The server timed out and was unable to complete publishing.
The last status message was: Publishing: SiteMap (articleList)"

The server load at the time is around 2.0 which isn't great but I've usually been able to publish eventually. The summary works but the link to the article itself is blank.

I have around 3,000 articles currently.

Re: [TitanJeff] Publishing issues

Hi Jeff!

Are you using a MySQL database or the built in flatfile database?

If you're using flatfile, I'd recommend switching up to MySQL. Flatfile works great if you have under a thousand articles, but once you start climbing higher it's a good idea to switch to a proper database.

Re: [Donna] Publishing issues

Thanks for the reply, Donna.

Under "Database Manger" in the AM admin, I see db_article. Once in there, I see "Database Type: File". So I'm thinking it is flatfile.

I went to my Cpanel and in the MySQL folder and don't see anything there referring to AM.

What would you recommend me do now?

Re: [TitanJeff] Publishing issues

I ran a search and found some info but can't get it to work. Here's what I did:

Created a new MySQL database: <name>_amdb with a new user: <name>_am.

In Admin>Database Editor, I switched to the MySQL:

Hostname: localhost
Port: blank
DB Name: <name>_amdb
User: <name>_am
Password: <password>
Table Prefix: db_ (which was what it was as a flatfile)

When I hit the continued button, I got:

Program was unable to connect to the MySQL database '<name>_amdb' on 'localhost'.
The reason given was: Access denied for user '<name>_am'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Re: [TitanJeff] Publishing issues

Yup, definitely time to switch!

Sometimes it can take 10-15 minutes for your database to be created, depending on your provider. Try again with the details you setup when you created your database.

If that doens't work, doublecheck with your hosting provider what the correct login credentials should be and they can let you know what to switch that to. :)

Re: [Donna] Publishing issues

Got it all set up and everything seemed to be in order.

I tried to save the article again and it hung up at:
"Publishing: SiteMap (articleList)"

Then it resulted in:
"The server timed out and was unable to complete publishing.
The last status message was: Publishing: SiteMap (articleList)"

The summary shows up but the link to the article goes to a 404 error page.

I tried the same with just an article with the word "test" as the title, summary and article itself and the same thing happened.

Re: [TitanJeff] Publishing issues

Hmm, definitely odd. Are you able to publish your sitemap publish rule independently (ie, through the Admin -> Publishing menu.)

I think regardless of the answer, we should probably move this to a support request so I can take a look at it directly. You can fill this out here:

Re: [Donna] Publishing issues

I just tried to publish again and it worked. It took a while but it happened.

I noticed my server load was light at the time which may have something to do with it or I needed to wait longer after transferring everything to MySQL.

Either way, I'm good and thanks again for your help.

Re: [TitanJeff] Publishing issues

To follow up, I'm having the same problems again.

"The server timed out and was unable to complete publishing.
The last status message was: Publishing: SiteMap (articleList)"

My server load was under .80 at the time.

Any suggestions?
