New Plugins: Website Favorites and Saved Searches

By Dave - January 21, 2010

Hello All,

I emailed this out to owners of the Website Membership plugin but I wanted to post it here as well for anyone else who might have missed it.

We've just released two new plugins in beta:

Website Favorites
http://www.interactivetools.com/add-ons/detail.php?Website-Favorites-Beta-1013

Website Saved Searches
http://www.interactivetools.com/add-ons/detail.php?Website-Saved-Searches-Beta-1014

These are both very powerful, easy to use plugins, with cut and paste code to add the common "Favorite Pages" feature (could be Listings, Products, etc) and "Save this Search" features. Once setup users can list their favorites and/or searches from their profile page.

We use both of these plugins ourselves and (even though we're fast) they save us hours of development time every time we use them.

Let me know any questions.

Hi Dave,

Your "Saved Searches" plugin is very interesting.

But, I wonder whether it would be possible to record the values (criteria) for then proposing to receive the result by email ?

The idea would be to create a plugin for to notify the user by email if a product corresponds to the criteria (an alert by mail and cron).

Your opinion ?

Thanks,

Djulia

Hi Djulia,

We're done that before as a custom job. It can require a lot of server resources depending on how many users there are, how many searches they each have, and how many emails need to be sent.

I'll give some thought to how we might be able to do that and we can discuss it again soon here or via email.

Thanks!
