Realty Manager Tutorial: Featured Listings For Super Users
This tutorial will walk you through the steps of having a "Featured listing" option that is available to Super Users only. This way, your agents will be able add their listings, but won't be able to force their listings as "Featured": that power will only be available to Super Users. Basically, this is done by turning any non-WYSIWYG textarea into a special field that only Super Users can see.
1. Backup the Listings Manager files from your server. In particular, you should backup your templates directory, since we'll be making changes to that, as well as your data files from the data directory. 2. Upload interface templatesDownload and unzip this zip file. The zip contains four templates. Upload these three files from to your templates/interface folder and move on to step 3:
_listing_add.html You don't need to make any changes to these templates. The _featured_results.html template will be used later on. 3. Change all existing text boxesLog into Listings Manager, go to Setup Options and click on Setup Listings Fields. This will bring up a list of all the fields you are currently using. Any field that is currently set to text box, will need to be changed over to a WYSIWYG. Once you are done, hit the Save button. 4. Setup new Featured listing fieldThere two different scenarios for this step. Either you don't have a featured listing field yet and need to create one, or you already have one but need to make some changes. Each one is explained below. a) Create a new Featured Listing Field: Head back to Setup Options and click on Setup Listings Fields again. In the first available field, enter "Featured Listing", select "text box" as its type and check the enabled box. Before hitting Save, make a note of your new field's placeholder name (this is in the first column and will look something like this "lfield25"). b) Already have a Featured Listing field: Head back to Setup Options and click on Setup Listings Fields again. Find your Featured Listing field and change its type to "text box". 5. Displaying Featured ListingsThis step is only needed if you don't already have featured listings appearing on your site. There are three things you'll need to do in order to have featured listings appear on your site:
And that’s pretty much it. Now on your Listings Editor page, only Super Users are going to see the text box for Featured Listings. When you want to feature a listing, just type "yes" in the field and for listings that aren't going to be featured, just leave the field blank. If you already had a field setup in the past, there may already be some "no" values on your listings. Don't worry about it though as they won't effect anything. Have a go at it and feel free to send in an email if you need a hand. Did this "How to" make sense? Send us your feedback, or let us know if you're using something like this on your installation of Realty Manager and we'll link to it as an example. |
