Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I Private Label my software? The Private Label Checklist gives step-by-step instructions. Private Labeling your software is just a few simple steps. Each step is completely optional, depending on the depth of the rebranding you want. 2. What's the point of "Private Label" software? Private Label allows you to market our products as your own. By rebranding the product, you can charge whatever makes sense for your project - without worrying about being competitive with our prices. Your brand will make yourself the only the point of origin for all the products and services you offer. Complete rebranding removes ANY mention of interactivetools.com, or even the original name of the product. A sublicense is a grant by the license holder (i.e. you) to another party (i.e. your client). Our Software License Agreement permits you to sublicense the software to your customer, giving them the right to use the product. This is a means for you to resell the software - you continue to have rights and obligations under the license agreement, but your sublicensee's (client's) agreement is with you. The sublicense is set up when you generate your Custom Vendor Profile, and in most cases the default sublicense that is included can be used as is, with no customization. You can also customize your sublicense agreement. To do this, modify the "templates/interface/_license.html" file - however, under the terms of your license, the modified sublicense must be at least as restrictive as the original license and can't contain the right for your sublicensee to sublicense the software to another party. We recommend that you review any edits with an attorney to ensure that your changes do not break your license agreement with interactivetools.com, and that your modified agreement doesn't put your company at risk. 4. What products have Private Label capability? Currently, all of our products are Private Label capable and fully rebrandable. The chart below shows in which version the feature was added:
5. Is there a way to provide installation files to my client already rebranded? By modifying a few files and rezipping the software, you can easily rebrand the product prior to installation. To do this, simply follow the same instructions in the Private Label Checklist - except to change the Program Name, you need to open the data/setup.dat or data/setup.dat.cgi file and change the program name there (make sure you don't change any other values or accidentally delete any of the separator characters). After making these edits, re-zip the folders and provide the zip to your client. You will also need to provide your client with some installation instructions so that they can set permissions on files and folders correctly. 6. Can I upgrade an installation to Private Label it? Simply upgrade the software, then follow the Private Label Checklist. Be aware that if you're upgrading from a previous version, the rebranding may not be "watertight" - for example, published pages may have the original program name stamped in them, and some files or screens may have mention of interactivetools.com. |
