Hierarchical Forum Structure Can't Post

Just a thought, based off of my experiences elsewhere on the interwebs on various forums and messageboards.

Has Interactivetools.com ever considered modifying the structure of the Forum to a Hierarchical type?

Instead of clicking CMS Builder: Plugins & Add-ons and getting a huge directory of EVERYTHING that falls under that category, perhaps create sub-categories.

Something like thisl

Forum

Parent Category - CMS Builder
Sub-Category => Post Your Best CMSB Sites
within Sub-Category => ===>Stickied post with links to the sites
within Sub-Category => ===>Rest of the threads would fill in here.
Sub-Category =>Post Your CMSB Config's
Sub-Category =>Post Your CMSB Tips, Tricks, & Tweaks

Parent Category - Plugins & Add-Ons
Sub-Category =>Geocoder
within Sub-Category => ===>Stickied post with staff posts, w/ changelog, install & config walkthrough etc, basic/common FAQ/help problems.
within Sub-Category => ===>Stickied post with user contributed tweaks tips & Tricks
within Sub-Category => ===>Rest of the threads would fill in here.
=>Spambot Email Protector
=>Create PDF
=>CSV Export
=>Website Membership
=>Twitter Post
=>Auto Backup
=>Download Mail
=>Website Favorites
=>Website Saved Searches
=>Low Disk Space Alert
Parent Category - -Off Topic
Parent Category - -Classic

I realize the text based layout leaves something to be desired. However I frequent a lot of forums (mainly auto/tech related) and we've got sub-category organization beneath the parent categories.

Just a thought.

Also...

Will we ever get it (the Forum) to support the same keyboard shortcut/hotkeys that PHPBB & EzBB support? Ya know... CTRL+I for Italics, CTRL+B for Bold, etc etc.

And lastly is there anything you can do about where the ezCode/text formmating code placement occurs? On PHPBB & EzBB it is possible to highlight a portion of text/code and then hit the Bold button and it will automatically place the opening and closing B tags/wrappers around the selected text. The other slightly annoying thing is that ezCode tag placement does not detect cursor position. If I place the cursor ahead of a word I typed out a few paragraphs up, and hit the B button, it (forum) inserts an opening B tag at the very end of the Test/Post input box...

The text stylization that I did above would have taken me about 60 seconds tops instead of a few minutes of copying and pasting tags by hand.

Oh, and what about making it so we can link like this

[url="http://google.com"]Google and have it link to google, but display Google. I like to cross reference links (in my posts) a lot, and have yet to figure out how to (on this forum).

Re: [Rusty] Hierarchical Forum Structure [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Rusty,

Our forum software is actually a 3rd Party Solution, so we're kind of at their mercy as to what is supported. We may be looking into different forum packages in the future.

As for creating links, you can do it like this:

Code
  [*url http://www.google.com*]Google [*/ur *]

Just remove the "*".

Hope this helps
