signup.cgi help Can't Post

Hi,
I am trying to get signup.cgi to run.

It is at www.greatoceanroad.pages.com.au/cgi-bin/lm/exec/signup.cgi

I have received the following after requesting some assistance from our hosting company:
===========================================
I Changed the first line of the file from

#!/usr/bin/perl
to
#!/usr/bin/perl -w

and it started giving us a bit of a better indicator, although an error message all the same.

the m\\ thing it refers to is old-style perl, so the script may need to be updated to have somehing else instead of m\\ , e.g. i think m\ might work.
=================================

TIA for any help with this
Vicki

Hi Vicki.

Thanks for posting!

I haven't actually seen that particular error message before and I wasn't able to find anything useful on google about it.

By default though, if Listings Manager is working fine on your server, then the signup.cgi script should as well. Besides modifying the first line of the file had you made any other changes to it?

Could I get you to try uploading a new version and resetting the permissions on it? I'll attach another copy of it to this post for you.

Do you recall if the first line of any other Listings Manager's scripts needed to be modified the same way this one did?

Perhaps you could try matching signup.cgi to install.cgi.

Even though this is a free addon, just let me know how you are making out and I'll do everything I can to get this going for you Smile.

Thanks Ross.

I didn't have to modify any of the other lm scripts with the "-w" and they worked hence I thought that if it was sitting in the same folder with the others it 'should' work.

I also have tried Scott's (hope I've got the name right) signup script and it wouldn't work until I modifid the first line to have the "-w" on it and then it worked OK but your one doesn't.

No, I haven't made any other modifications.

There was no attachment. Perhaps send me another copy and I will see if I can get it working. Although we are happy with Scott's one I would like to find out why the other one isn't working.

Cheers,
Vicki

Re: [coley] signup.cgi help [In reply to] Can't Post

Cliff,

I have installed the new copy of the sign up script.

I altered the first line by adding -w (see above).

When I call the script at http://www.greatoceanroad.pages.com.au/cgi-bin/lm/exec/signup.cgi it gives the following:
Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) at signup.cgi line 299.

I have got the other signup script operating fine.

Hi Vicki,

Thanks for the update.

I'm not really sure why the sign up script that I sent you won't work, and since the sign up script is an unsupported free add-on, it doesn't look like I will be able to resolve the problem for you.

Considering the other sign up script is working properly I recommend using it. From what I have seen, Scott's script works exactly the same as ours does.

I wish that I could have been of more help in getting this up and running for you. If you have any additional questions or concerns please don't hesitate to let me know Smile

Thanks Cliff,

Yes, am using Scott's script and also would like to discover 'why' the other one has a problem but just don't have time at the moment.

Scott's script is working so we will continue with that.

Thanks anyway.
Cheers,
Vicki
