Search Homepages

I have a quick question, I have read in the past that some poeple wanted the homepages also to be searchable, or at least sorted besides by sorting using the user number. I myself will have many dealerships and need some sort of reasonable way to either sort these (preferably by $user_name$ alphabetical always works for me), or to use a modified version of the search script so that instead it searches through the homepage fields. I read in an earlier post that you had done this, if you had could you please send me the script. I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you have any other suggestions let me know. I also had a little trouble figuring out how I was going to allow people that wanted to search certain dealership listings only since I will have so many dealerships. I solved this by placing a customized search engine taylored to their user number on each of the homepages. This worked out great for me.(just a suggestion for those of you that have many homepages, because it sure beats a dropdown with over 100 names) David David Rogers ZYBR media an Olando based web design studio. Here are the files needed for searching homepages. Just unzip and take a look at the readme.txt file for more information. The files was originally designed for Realty Manager, so you'll have to change some words in the template (e.g. "agents" become "dealerships" etc.) /Dave Lo

Thanks, the _search_homepages module works great. I have but only one problem. The $user_file$ refers to original homepage file, why doesn't it refer to the html file that I choose. For instance I changed my homepage $user_file$ to be otownautos.html instead of the default h0999.html. Yet when I search, it places the default $user_file$ instead of the one i specify. Hi! I had wanted to organize my agents alphabetically, so I downloaded the earlier version of the search_homepage module. After setting that up, I was able to organize them alphabetically, but I noticed the user_file problem, where I couldn't access the agent homepages which I had renamed. So I came back to these forums, and found this thread with the new search_homepage zip file. After setting that up, I got the agent homepage links to work, and the search features work fine, except that nothing seems to work for sort_order anymore. It won't alphabetize, won't do ascending/descending, doesn't change the order in anyway anymore, and I have no clue why. Any ideas on why it might be doing this, or anything I could look at to help me better troubleshoot? Actually, something else I was wondering, are there any websites currently using the Realty Manager with the search homepage module that I might be able to look at (it might help somehow?). I looked at several of the websites under customer reviews, but none that I looked at seemed to be using it. Thanks! Virginia

Hi Virginia, Hmm, I wonder what the problem is? The new script certainly shouldn't have stopped the ordering from working, and I believe the search syntax remained the same. The "Enable Database Sorting" option in your Setup Options didn't somehow get toggled to "no" somewhere down the line, did it? That would prevent the search.cgi script from being able to re-order the results - perhaps it would stop the search_homepage script from doing so too... Interesting! Give that a look at, but if not I think you might have to contact us and let one of our support guys take a closer look at it for you. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Ben interactivetools.com

I downloaded this add on and loaded it on my site. But when I try to view the search page on the net @ www.mysite.com/.../exec/search_homepage.cgi it just gives me a blank page. p.s. the permissions are set up correctly.

Hi jsi, May I ask how did you download the script? If you click on the forum post earlier to download the script, chances are the script's not meant to work with version 2.51 (it's for older versions). If you'd like, I can send you the script that'll work with 2.51 through Email. Simply send an email to support@interactivetools.com and request the search_homepage.cgi script there. Note that since the script's free, it's unsupported. Having said that, we have clients who've used this script extensively on the website, so chances are it'll work fine for you too. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions for me. Cheers, Eric Lau - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Thanks! I uploaded the new files and am getting the following error when I try to view the search on the web Invalid template name: _search_homepage_query.html I am using the generic templates so that is the folder I placed the _search_homepage_query template in. I am assuming it is looking for the template in the _realty folder. What do I need to do. Thanks!!!!!!!!

Hi jsi, Thanks for the response . Without examining your installation I cannot tell you what you should do. Although the script's unsupported, if you can give me your FTP information through a support form: https://www.interactivetools.com/support/email_support.cgi I may be able to offer some help. In the meantime if you have other questions please let me know. Cheers, Eric Lau - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

HI jsi, I've received the support request and upon examining I see what the issue is. For backwards compatibility reasons, your _search_homepage_query.html and your _search_homepage_results.html must reside in the /templates folder (notice not in the _generic, _realty or, _auto subfolders, just /template in your installation). Simply move your template files there and that should resolve the issue. If you have other questions please let me know. Cheers, Eric Lau - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Terry, The latest search script is for searching homepages is 2.30, so if you homepages search script has the following file name: search_homepage.230.zip Then you got the most recent version and it'll work with Listings Manager 2.51. I hope this helps! Cheers, Eric Lau - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Eric, I have recently received the search_homepage.cgi script from your support team and I am having a problem. I get an "Internal Server Error". The site address the script is installed at is http://www.lanceroy.com/cgi-bin/listman/exec/search_homepage.cgi and the error in the server log is "Premature end of script headers". I have checked the permissions and have been sure to place the template files in /templates and not in /_realty. Any Ideas?

Hi Chris. Thanks for posting! From the sounds of it, you have all the setup done correct (permissions and files in the right place) so my first line of thought is that maybe something happened to the search_homepage.cgi script during the upload and setup process. Could I get you to try uploading another copy again? I’ll attach a clean copy of the files that I have here for you just incase the original zip file we sent because corrupted too. And just to make sure, the rest of your scripts like admin.cgi and search.cgi run properly right? Just keep me updated and I am sure that, together, we can get this script up and running . ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Ross Fairbairn - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Ross, Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the file you posted and got the same result. After further troubleshooting I discovered my ftp client was using Binary mode instead of ASCII. After changing my upload mode it worked fine. Thanks again for your help.

Hi! Sorry for the confusion, yes it is currently working now, I installed the newest files that were sent to me and that did the trick. I had posted about another problem once I got this working and replied to the wrong post! Thanks! Samantha

I moved my website to a new server and have had to setup all the scripts again. Everything is working except for this one, and I'm not sure what the problem is. I am uploading all the files from the old server that were working, and all the other scripts are working, just not search_homepage.cgi. http://www.edcstlucie.org/cgi-bin/rm/exec/search_homepage.cgi
