I can get the script to go to the signup page but after entering a new username, password, and email address the login screen appears saying "Invalid Login". I check the user.dat.cgi file and there are no new username and passwords written there. Does the adduser.dat.cgi write to the user.dat.cgi? The script does send the email but of course I still can't login. What's Up? Help needed. It seems like a great script if I can get it to work.

Hi, Thanks for the post! As this is a free add-on it's not something I can offer a lot of support for or something I'm incredibly familiar with. That said, it sounds like there may be a couple of things you'll want to check on the server. First, you'll want to be sure that the adduser.dat.cgi has all of the correct values for your domain name, path to admin.cgi etc. There are some pretty specific requirements that you'll want to double check for these values. Also, you'll want to make sure that this script has the permissions set on it to write to the files in your /data/ directory. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to let me know! Cheers, Mike Briggs - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

It doesn't work that way. What you do, is you create a paypal button for a customer to click on. When they click this button, it takes them to the paypal site where they submit their payment. Paypal then returns them to this signup script, where the user chooses a username/password. They hit submit and they are automatically logged in to the system. Brent: I'd be interested to see the modification you made to Scott's script - is it possible you could post it here? I'm interested that you send the user to a PHP page. Does this code hide your return email address? I believe it might address one of the complaints I have about CGI scripts. I see the weakness of CGI scripts being that they reveal the email address within the HTML source, thus attracting spam, whereas a form-to-email script such as NateMail.php (or ProcessForm.php which is the paid version) effectively hides the address. I'd really like to get your Add user script to work. It seems to have exactly what I need in terms of functionality. I'm having the following problem: The script seems to functions. No error messages are displayed. It allows me to create a new user, however, the automatic login fails saying there's no such login. When I login as Superuser, there is no new account. And ideas? Thanks. I know you're not really using these sites anymore, but any help would be appreciated. Spiro

I just installed the adduser.dat.cgi script (Realty Manager) and it runs, and even sends a confirm email to me and to the new user. However, the auto login fails and there is no new user added. The user.dat.cgi file remains unchanged, so it looks like the script isn't passing the new user data at all. I tried changing the permissions on that file to no avail. I have checked all the paths in the comment section of the script, and they all appear correct. So here I am asking for help! Does anyone know how to make it write in a new user? Thanks, Ethan PS Many thanks to Ross....he just finished the install of my new Article Manager.....and it's Sunday afternoon....I love your customer service! Hi, I just installed this script and it works a treat. I have one question - can this script fall prey to spambots? I would hate for things to be ruined by a load of spurious sign-ups because the spammers have located the script on the server. I have to admit that I don't really understand the technicalities of what the spammers do so perhaps my fears are unfounded!

Hi Annie, Thanks for the post! I'm glad to hear that you have this all set-up the way that you'd like, I have never actaully run into any concerns regarding this script and spammers. Perhaps some members of our community will be able to provide you with some of their experiences. ) Cheers, Chet Woodside - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Hi Annie: I have been using the script for several months and so far no problems with spam. However, I would suggest setting the configuration so that you can review what people put in prior to the listing going live. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
