New Image Manager! WHOOT! Can't Post

Hey all... thanks to Parker over at Mustangs For Sale , I was able to complete the new image manager I was working on.

These templates are for Listings Manager 2.52!

Here's a screenshot of how it looks:

I've attached all the files you need. Just upload these templates to your templates/interface directory and upload spacer2.gif into your root images directory (ie: http://www.yourdomain.com/images/spacer2.gif) and you're good to go!

***MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE YOU OVERWRITE YOUR TEMPLATES***

I also tried to address the look of having alot of checkboxes by filling them in with grey coloring. It's A LOT easier on the eyes this way in my opinion.

Let me know if you have any problems with these templates. This is a really NICE mod because now you can actually *SEE* what you're selecting... hope everyone likes it Smile

Thanks,
Scott

Hi dedbob.

This looks extremely cool. I haven’t had a chance just yet to test it out, but I will tomorrow Smile.

Thanks for all the hard work you and Park put into this for us.

If anyone else gets a chance to try it out, we would all be interested in hearing about it.

I look forward to giving it a shot myself Smile.

Re: [wasatch] New Image Manager! WHOOT! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey Scott

As ever another great add-on to the system, I spend about 50% of my support time teaching people how to use the image manager and this is really cool, it should save me time in the future.

Unfortunately, I installed it on my dev server and could not get it to work for love nor money. It all looked great, apart from the images were not showing, all I could see was spacer2.gif, where I knew I should be seeing images, clicking around did nothing, just 10 spacer2.gifs staring at me...

Anyway, to cut to the chase I suddenly realised that this is a browser thing. I was using Firefox (1.0.4) and it did not show at all, but as soon as I moved to IE it worked a dream.

Unfortunately my users are Firefox converts, so this will not work for me at the moment. Thought that you would want to know about this, would be really keen to use it if it worked in Firefox too.

Anyway, cheers and sorry to be the one to notice it Wink

Cheers

Ah... that's cool... I didn't realize it didn't work on FireFox... that blows.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to try and make it work in FF like I would like... guess it'll have to stay an IE only option unless someone who has the time wants to mess with it Frown.

Either way, I guess the IE users will have the images... and FF users won't really lose out since they won't know the images are supposed to change anyway. Not the best way to look at it.. but if the images don't show, then they at least have the functionality of what Interactivetools gave them originally.

If nothing else, they have an image telling them to select their images... which was the whole reason I tried making this mod in the first place (becasue people couldn't figure out that they had to select their images).

Maybe Interactivetools could add this as a feature request?

Thanks,
Scott

This is a great mod and it took 1 minute to install.

Is there a version for the Homepage as well?

All the best,
-Jon

P.S. Your Mustang site is great. Wish I still had my 1964, had it back in 1974. Dad made me sell it.

Thanks for the great comments on the Mustang site... it's not mine though... I just made it for someone else Smile

As of right now, there's no version for the homepage. I know I don't have the time to do one right now Frown ... maybe sometime in the future...

Thanks,
Scott

Ignore this - I figured out what I was doing ... duh!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Scott:
When I try to preview the files on my local system, I get a stack overflow, which does not occur with the default Interactivetools files. This text appears at the top of the page:
account disabled all listings hidden Hide Listing Don't display this listing on website $fname$ $fname$ Auto Format (?) $fvalue_he$$fname$ Auto Format (?) $fvalue_he$// lfield$fnum$ checkboxOBJ=document.getElementById('format_lfield$fnum$'); if (checkboxOBJ.checked) { textareaOBJ=document.getElementById('lfield$fnum$'); textareaOBJ.value=textareaOBJ.value.replace(/(\r\n|\r|\n)/g,""); checkboxOBJ.checked = false; } hidespanOBJ=document.getElementById('hide_$fnum$_checkbox'); hidespanOBJ.style.display="none"; editor_generate('lfield$fnum$');
Re: [Si] New Image Manager! WHOOT! [In reply to] Can't Post
I started with what dedbob created and made a few layout changes. Then I found out that the customer is using FireFox and that the code isn't cross-browser compatible. So, I rewrote the code and it worked great except for the selected images not loading when the page loaded (the onLoad command in the <body> didn't work - and I don't know enough to make it work). My first solution was to force them to load by using an onMouseOver command inserted into the main <table> of the page. It was cheating, but it worked... Until I noticed that the images flickering in IE. They were reloading over and over again as the mouse moved around. So, the solution was to not have them pre-load and to place a button at the top of the list of images for the purpose of loading them. It's actually nice doing it this was because it saves bandwidth if the customer is making a change to a price or description while on dial-up (yes, it happens).
Anyway - I'm not sure if anyone is interested in seeing how this was done, but I thought that since I needed it then someone else might also.
The script at the top of the _listing_add and _listing_edit pages look like this (I'll show two, so you see what changes from script to script. Just keep increasing numbers until you have 10 copies)
Code
<script type="text/javascript">
function chooseImage1(el){
sel = el.options[el.selectedIndex];
if(!sel.value){
img = '<img border="0" alt="" width="150"
src="/images/spacer2.gif"/>';
}
else{
img = '<img border="0" alt="" width="150"
src="$listing_url$/images/'+ sel.value + '"/>';
}
document.getElementById('myImage1').innerHTML = img
}
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function chooseImage2(el){
sel = el.options[el.selectedIndex];
if(!sel.value){
img = '<img border="0" alt="" width="150"
src="/images/spacer2.gif"/>';
}
else{
img = '<img border="0" alt="" width="150"
src="$listing_url$/images/'+ sel.value + '"/>';
}
document.getElementById('myImage2').innerHTML = img
}
</script>
Then, in the body of the page you'll refer to the script as follows:
Code
<tr>
<td valign="top">
<font style="font-size:13px" face="arial">
&nbsp;Image #1</font>
<font style="font-size:9px" face="arial">
& Preview Image</font>
</td>
<td>
<select name="limage0" id="hmc1" size="7" onchange="chooseImage1(hmc1)">
<option value="">None $ilist0$
</select>
</td>
<td>
<div align="center" id="myImage1">
<img border="0" src="/images/spacer2.gif" width="150">
</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top">
<font style="font-size:13px" face="arial">
&nbsp;Image #2</font>
</td>
<td>
<select name="limage1" id="hmc2" size="7" onchange="chooseImage2(hmc2)">
<option value="">None $ilist1$
</select>
</td>
<td>
<div align="center" id="myImage2">
<img border="0" src="/images/spacer2.gif" width="150">
</div>
</td>
</tr>
You'll notice I added a little text on the Image #1, this is to help remind my customer that he doesn't need to upload two resolutions of the same image like his old software required. You can remove it if you like.
The code for the button that loads the selected images looks like this:
Code
<td colspan=3 align="center">
<BUTTON
TYPE=BUTTON
onClick="chooseImage1(hmc1), chooseImage2(hmc2),
chooseImage3(hmc3), chooseImage4(hmc4),
chooseImage5(hmc5), chooseImage6(hmc6),
chooseImage7(hmc7), chooseImage8(hmc8),
chooseImage9(hmc9), chooseImage10(hmc10)">
<I>View Selected Images</I>
</BUTTON>
</td>
I just placed it right over the top of the images as this seemed the most logical place.
I'm sure someone could make the code a little less bloated. I don't normally write JavaScript and had to do about 4 days worth of googling and trying and googling and retrying in order to get it to work. If anyone wants to clean the code up at all, feel free. I just ask that you share with the rest of the people here too.
I'll try to answer questions if you have them. Thanks to dedbob for getting me started on this change - it's a great addition that my customer is excited about having.
