Absolutely! I have copies of both Realty Manager and Auto Manager running on my work PC for testing.

The first thing to do is to make sure you can get a simple "hello world" script working on your laptop. If you need to install Perl, you can get a most excellent copy from Active State (for free, of course)

http://www.activestate.com/

Create a file in your favourite text editor (notepad for example) and paste this script in:

Quote
#!/usr/bin/perl
print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";
print "Hello world!\n";

Save that as a file called "hello.cgi" in your web directory and see if you can get it running through your browser. When you've got that working, you can install the software as described in the online documentation. Ignore the fact that the documentation tells you to FTP the software to your website, since you'll be able to simply drag-and-drop the software into your website.

The final step will be to set permissions on your laptop so that Perl scripts will be allowed to create and modify files. Don't worry: you only need to do this for your /data/, /listings/, and /homepages/ directories. Detailed instructions on setting Windows file permissions can be found here:

To check what version of Perl you're running under Windows, click the Start button and select "Run...". Type in "cmd" and hit enter. You should now be in a DOS window. (On older versions of Windows, try "command" instead.)

Now that you're in DOS, type the following lines:

c:
cd\perl\bin
perl -v

If you've installed Perl into the default directory (or you've got it in your path) you should now be looking at Perl's version information. Type "exit" to close the DOS window.

Please note that our software requires version 5.004 (or newer) of Perl. If you need to upgrade, it's a painless process: simply point your browser to activestate.com and download the latest version of Perl.

Let me know if you run into any problems getting our software set up and I'll do what I can to help.
Chris
