Urgent - need a reliable web host fast!

Please can someone recommend a web host which will accommodate Listings Manager running about 700 listings? The host that my client is using at the moment locked us out without a word because the search.cgi script is apparently using too many system resources. For starters, is there anything I can do to help decrease the load? Secondly, if you are already using Listings Manager satisfactorily with a web host (we are UK based so probably a UK host would be best but not necessarily crucial), could you let me know how many listings you have and who the host is. I would add that the budget for this project is not very big and therefore it would need to be a shared hosting solution. Many thanks. Annie

We've often recommended dreamhost.com. They offer quite a bit and have very reasonable rates. Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com

Thank you for the suggestion, Dave. I notice from reading their web site that they don't seem to have a cgi-bin as they say you can run scripts form anywhere. Does this have any implications for Listings Manager in the way of security or file permissions? Also, I have backed up the data (about 680 listings) but the file path originally included a cgi-bin in it. If the path changes with a new host, will the data file be affected or is that not relevant? Obviously, I know I need to set the path up in the Setup. Do I need to perform a fresh installation or can I simply copy the files over to the new server? Many thanks. Annie

It doesn't really matter that they don't use a cgi-bin. It's true there are some benefits, but it won't matter for what you're doing, and actually is often easier to not use it because you can keep your files all together in the same dir. After you account is setup, just upload all the files you backed up. If they were in /cgi-bin/lm/ and /lm/ then just put them all in /lm/ (or whatever the directory was called) then set the permissions, login, and update your paths in the settings. If you run into any problems just let us know and we can help you get it up and running on the new host. Dave Edis - Senior Developer interactivetools.com
