Thinking of buying

Hi, I'm thinking of buying listings manager for a few sites I have to develop. Before I do I have a couple of questions; I am developing a property, motors, classifieds and dating site. On each site I will require the user to signup themselves and post property, motors etc.. for sale (There will be no fee involved). I understand I can acheive this will an add-on? Do you think the software will be suitable for a dating site, or should I look for something aimed at that area? I've used article manager before - are the server requirements the same? Any plans for a new version with integrated user-signup or other new features? thanks! Hartlepool

Hi dan_999, Thanks for your post. You're right, there is a web form based sign-up script available for Listings Manager that will allow visitors to sign up and post ads. While Listings Manager could be adapted to run a dating site, it really depends on what features you wanted for it. There is no private messaging system in Listings Manager for example, which could be a problem for you. If you're looking for newspaper-style classified ads, you would probably be fine with Listings Manager for this purpose. The following are the server requirements for Listings Manager:
Website - You must have a website in order to install the software. The software does not run on your PC, it runs on the actual computer that hosts your web pages. Perl 5.004+ - Your web server must have Perl 5.004 or better. Your network administrator can download the latest version of Perl from http://www.perl.com/. Perl is extremely common though, and installed on virtually every webserver on Earth. CGI Access - Your website must be configured to run Perl/CGI scripts. FTP Access - You will be transferring files from your local computer to your website, so you will need some kind of "File Transfer Protocol" software. We recommend CuteFTP. Write Access - You must be able to make files and directories writable on your web server. If the software doesn't have write access it won't be able to update its data files. Optional - Image thumbnailing requires ImageMagick (any) Perl Module or GD Perl Module (GD.pm 1.26 and higher) I can't speak for our developers as far as any new versions of the software go, but I do know that user sign-up and other features that users have requested will all be given consideration for future versions. Let us know if you have any other questions! ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
