Session Expired Can't Post

A client informed me today she is unable to modify any of her listings like she always has, even up to 2 weeks ago. I tested it with IE7 and got the same problem she got. I can login to the Listings Manager admin, but as soon as I try to edit a listing, go to user manager, or anything else, I get taken to a "Session Expired" message. Has anyone else seen this? I can use the admin with Firefox 2 without any problems.

Hi there

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

I think what you are going to be running into here is a cookies issue and there are whole bunch of different tests that we can to.

First, I'll get you to make sure the system time and date on your computer is set correctly. It's the one in the bottom right of your screen.

Next up, I'll get you to double check the cookies are in fact enabled in your browser and then see if you could try either a different browser, or a different computer all together.

After that, make sure that you don't have a firewall blocking cookies and then finally, see if you can log into this online demo I created for you:

If you are still having trouble after all this, let me know and I'll get you to fill in a support request for me Smile.

Re: [ross] Session Expired [In reply to] Can't Post

Since my original post, I have done some other testing. It is looking like it is server related somehow. I have the script installed on another server and all is good on that server in both IE and Firefox. I discovered in my testing that I am having the same problem with another similar script on that server, while this other script works fine on other servers. I am having the network center guys look in to it.

And the answer is .................. the server clock was off by one hour. So, the software must check the server clock with the user computer clock and since the server clock was 1 hour ahead, the user gets logged out, aka session expired. It is interesting that the problem happens on IE for Windows and Safari for MAC, but not on Firefox for Windows and Firefox for MAC.

I am also experiencing this problem with Safari on a MAC, but it works fine on Firefox.

How do I solve this problem? And how do I check the time on the server?

Re: [WEVOLUTIONS] Session Expired [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi WEVOLUTIONS,

Because this problem is appearing in one browser but not the other, the server time cause can be ruled out. What's likely happening here is that some security or cookie settings in Safari are interfering with the software. I'd double-check these settings to make sure everything is set up to allow cookies from your site.

Let us know if you have any other questions about this. Smile
