Serious Problem - not enough fields Can't Post

I've just moved to re-do my listings since there was too much repetition in my old one but now I've hit a snag, there seems to be a limit of 75 fields but I need about 90, what can I do?

Oh and no, it is not possible for me to consolidate fields, I'm already doing that but I have eight completely different categories and each needs about 15 different fields. There must be a way to increase this, it is essential.

Hi mark99,

Thanks for posting!

Unfortunately there is no way to increase the amount of fields available in Listings Manager - this is hard-coded into the software and cannot be changed.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Smile

What are you using so many fields for? If it's an option to switch to another product you might want to check out CMS Builder. It allows unlimited fields and multiple sections.

I have run into this too. Unfortunatly I have yet to figure out the coding so I can add more fields. It can't be impossible to do this and if I am to buy another program to do exactly what this is I have already looked at others. I just don't want to start all over again.

Hi there,

The Listings Manager code can't be changed -- that'll actually stop the software from working. It does have a hard limit of 75 fields.

If you've purchased recently, you can exchange Listings Manager for CMS Builder and not pay anything extra. Drop us an email for more details if you'd like.

Does the CMS Builder have the function to VIN Decode, Ebay Module and Data Import Utility Module? I have had listing manager for several years on a client’s site. It has worked well but now that the online portion of business has increased we need to push the information and search capabilities more. That is why I would like to increase the fields.

Recently the client change from a Unix based in-house system to a windows based system that can export inventory to xls, csv, access, etc. An import function would be great and help smooth the process of submitting new vehicles.

To maximize search capabilities I gave each option its own field. So if a customer wants to search for a vehicle that has Power Windows, Aluminum Wheels, Sunroof, etc they just pick the appropriate boxes. That way a customer can search for more than one option. This was the only way I was able to get multiple accessories search to work.

Also I have worked on trying to setup a java script search function. This will only search to the model of vehicles I have listed in a drop down for that particular make. So if someone selects Volkswagen In the "Vehicle Make" dropdown it will not list a Passat in the "Vehicle Model" dropdown selection because I currently have non in inventory. Unfortunately I have not gotten this to work. If the CMS Builder can do all this then yes I may be willing to redo the site over. If not then there are others that do and are still capable of integrating into my current flash site. It is just I would like to stick with what I got and not have to repost every single vehicle, photo, etc.

However I have worked the code over a couple times to make slight changes. Yet when I try to work over the Number of listings code I always get the corrupt error.

Hi FWInternet,

CMS Builder allows you to set up unlimited custom input fields, so the field limitation would be taken care of. It doesn't have any kind of automated facility to hook up to ebay or to do any kind of processing of VIN numbers. It's possible to import data into CMS Builder's MySQL database, but this is something that have to be done through phpMyAdmin or another tool since CMS Builder itself doesn't have an import function built in.

If you needed to import vehicles into your existing Listings Manager database through a CSV file, this is possible to do. There are a few steps involved, and if you're curious we can outline the process for you if you drop us an email to support@interactivetools.com.

In regards to the vehicle make menu for searching, you could probably use some PHP code to dynamically pull in the available vehicles from a certain manufacturer from CMS Builder's database. Again, this functionality is more advanced so the software won't do it for you out of the box, but with some PHP coding work it can be done.

I think I answered all of your questions - let us know if there's anything else we can clarify for you!
