Hi all at Interactive Tools and all the best for 2003. I am experementing and trying to create a data base for my local portal from am. As clients will not be uploading listings, only info on their company, i have set up the home page template to look like a web page, with address, fields for comments etc, it all works well but when i set up the "search_homepage.cgi with the "hfield16_match" or hfield16_keyword, the search return not found etc. I have set up the home page hfield16 for the catagory that applys to their business. Please can you advise. Thanks Jim

Jim, First let me say I am not a programmer.... :-) But, I think your problem might be that you have more than one search field referencing hfield16 and basically all the fields are combining and are doing a "and" search. Such as Accountants from list 1 AND D-H from list 2 AND I-R from list three, etc., and, of course, you don't have a category that matches all those selections. Try making your default dropdown selection, i.e. A-C, D-H, etc., equal to <option value="">. __________________________________ InternetOne.net

Thanks, I changed the code and it now will return results, but when you select a business in the A-C box it returns all listings, but when you select a business cat from S-Z box, it returns only the business looked for. Thanks for your help. Any other ideas? Jim

No other suggestions here, Jim. Perhaps you could post a URL of the serach page so others might be able to take a look at what you have. __________________________________ InternetOne.net

Hi Jim, I would like to look into this further for you to find a solution but it is hard to determine what is going on without viewing the search page source. Can you email me at support@interactivetools.com the URLto your search page so I can take a look at how you have it set up. Thanks, Cheers Damon Edis interactivetools.com

Hi Damon Have a look at When i search for Restaurants and select Elgin it returns all Elgin Business, rather than restaurants in Elgin only. All business are hfield1 and town is hfield4 exec/search_homepage.cgi?search=1&perpage=10&sort_order=1%2Cabc%2Cforward&marknew=1&euro_numbers=0&hfield1_keyword=&hfield1_keyword=&hfield1_keyword=Restaurants&hfield1_keyword=&hfield4_match=Elgin This return all Elgin Business exec/search_homepage.cgi?search=1&perpage=10&sort_order=1%2Cabc%2Cforward&marknew=1&euro_numbers=0&hfield1_keyword=&hfield1_keyword=&hfield1_keyword=Restaurants Returns all Restaurants Please have a look "I am a sales man not a programmer but getting there" Jim

Hi Jim, After glancing at the two search strings you included, there's clearly something wonky with your form: there's quite a few redundant hfield1_keyword's. I also took a look at the link you supplied, but had a hard time figuring out which listings were from which town & business - so I wasn't sure if it was working or not! :-) I think perhaps your best bet would be to fill in our support request form (which includes your FTP information) so we could take a direct look at the problem. Hi Ben i have looked at how the search works and have found that if, lets say we are searching for a business. i have set up a home page field hfield18 as a keyword field, when clients enter their details they enter all business related keywords in hfield18. I have also set up a search box searching only hfield18 for business keywords and it works well. It's all food for thought! Thanks Jim
