Re: [PlasticRock] Realty Manager with mySQL??? <Presale Question> [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Thanks for the post.

Currently we're working on the underlying technologies of all of our future products, which includes support for mySQL. As soon as we've completed this we plan to begin developing upgrades to many of our existing products. Because we haven't begun integrating this technology into Realty Manager yet, no release date has been set.

We'll be sure to make an announcement on the website, in the forum, and through the newsletter as soon as upgrades to any of our existing products are made available. :)

Any update on MySQL being the database engine -vs- flat file database?

Hi Diz!

We don't currently have any plans to move Realty Manager to a MySQL database, but CMS Builder does use a MySQL database and can do a lot of the same things Realty Manager does. We offer a ten day free trial if you'd like to try it out!

Donna I now understand why there seems to be some confusion on the part of your clients using your RM/LM software over the course of the last 5-6 years within your forum. It would appear that there is some confusion on "your side" as well according to postings: http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=59958;search_string=mysql;t=search_engine#59958

Why would you ask people to buy a new product (CMS) before supporting your current clients with open inquiries for more than 5 years?

It appears that AM has been updated to MYSQL. Please advise?

What we're planning to do is to create a new product that has the functionality of both products. The new product won't be called Realty Manager though.

We're getting closer, there's just a few features that remain.

So RM/LM not receiving MySQL update, short version. Longer version, new product, to arrive ??, product release? I'm very interested, Help?

May I ask? Will it still allow customization with .html? Will it provide an unlimited number of new fields to be created? Will it still produce a Php listing output file? Will it provide better user and or site management traffic tracking, greater meta tage/SEO functionality? Is it a more robust content portal offering? why?

Yes, you can bet we're almost always working on something new. Sometimes many things. ;)

It will based on the same framework as CMS Builder. But CMS Builder still doesn't do everything that Realty Manager does (although it has some tricks of it's own). So rather than making everyone wait longer for an improved realty program we released CMS Builder as is in November and have been refining it and adding features to make it able to do all the same things as Realty Manager.

It's a complete rewrite, written in PHP (not Perl), provides not only unlimited fields but also unlimited sections. So you could have a section for Commercial And Residential with different fields for each.

It doesn't publish html files like Realty Manager, it uses a dynamic viewer. So you'd have an url like this: listings.php?Tudor_Style_Home-12345 but also supports Search engine friendly urls as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by better user and site management traffic tracking, so we probably don't have that yet, but the unlimited fields allow for whatever meta tags or other fields you might want.

If you want to get a feel for what it can do and where things are header the best thing to do would be to try the 10 day trial of CMS Builder. It's pretty powerful software.

Hope that helps. We'll post more information as soon as it's available.

Re: [Dave] Realty Manager with mySQL??? <Presale Question> [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you very much for the info. I don't understand why I would buy LM/RM or CMS if you're working on a more real estate centric program as we speak? Certainly this new product being developed will offer something additional over CMS or there would be no need to purchase it, correct?

I was just looking for an answer to a 6 year old inquiry about MySQL for LM/RM, like you have provided for AM. You guys do such a great job on your offerings & client support, it just seemed odd that AM would receive MySQL update but not RM/LM clients?

Can you customize the layout? How would you get all of the listing data out of LM to CMS and match up the $lfields$ so you are not manually updating 2500 listings into the new CMS? or New realty program?

Whenever you buy you can count there will always be something new and better around the corner. Especially in the computer/technology industry, you'll always get more if you wait 6 months. But there's also a cost to waiting. It means your clients are waiting too or your website project isn't progressing because you're waiting for the next best thing.

We've been wanting to add MySQL for a _long_ time to RM. We've just had trouble figuring out the best way to do it. We're on the right track now and it's a priority for us.

And you can bet that when we release a new Realty program (or shortly thereafter) we'll have some kind of import program to bring your data over.

One of the things we learned when we discontinued Page Publisher is that even though CMS Builder did everything that PP did and was "better", many many people still wanted Page Publisher and preferred to use that.

So I wouldn't be surprised if that was the same case with Realty Manager, and we'll keep selling it as long as people want it. (Page Publisher is still available through a special order form link for previous customers).

And yes, you'll be able to customize the layout as well.

Hope that helps!

Re: [Diz] Realty Manager with mySQL??? <Presale Question> [In reply to] Can't Post

As a user of RM/LM for many years for my clients, I am really excited about the new PHP/MySQL version being developed based on the CMS Builder solution.

Because LM had not been developed further for some years I have been actively looking at other solutions. I would love to stay with Interactivetools because I believe you offer good products with good support.

The question is, how close are you to releasing the new version? Are we likely to see a release date imminently or next year?

Thanks

Hi there,

CMS Builder currently does pretty much everything that Realty Manager does (and a heck of a lot more) -- check it out, it's pretty cool. :)
