Random Listings

Hi, we are using listings manager to allow advertisers to list their hotels and guesthouses within our website which works very well except for one issue, we regularly receive complaints from advertisers that the system gives unfair advantage to the accommodation begining with letters earlier in the alphabet due to it sorting in alphabetical order, this seems to us to be the fairest option as the program is at present, ideally we would like to be able to create a totally random listing, I am aware that we can choose the field to be sorted on but I cannot see any field which will provide any sort order which wouldnt ultimately be abused or cause someone to think it's unfair. Can anyone advise if there is a way that we can randomise the list either manually within the control panel by republishing the listing index or better still automating a re-order on a daily or weekly basis so that we get a completely different listing order on a regular basis. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi willydoit, Thanks for your post. I think a random listing order is beyond the scope of Listings Manager's capabilities at the moment. It might be possible to get this going with some creative javascript, but as I'm not a javascript expert I couldn't really tell you where to begin. A number of other users have requested this feature, so it's possible that you'll see it in a future release. Let us know if you have any other questions! ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Temporary solution... Perhaps change "&sort_order=5%2C123%2Cforward" in the search URL occasionally ie change the field it sorts on (5 in the example). Just an idea. Nick
