Public and Private Listings

Hi, We are an aircraft brokerage company and have been using LM for about a year and love it! I was wondering if we can add a category to each listing such as "listing complete" and "listing in progress", where the completed listings appear in our main index and the listings in progress show up in a password protected area of our website. We would like other brokers and certain clients to be able to view the listings in progress without the rest of the world having access to them. I understand that there is a way that I can create multiple templates and adjust the way they appear on my website, but I don't want these "listings in progress" to be found by accident or be categorized by outside search engines. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jessica

Hi Jessica, I think the only way to do this would be to set up a separate installation of the software for this purpose. The issue here is that the software can only publish listings in one directory. This means that there's no effective way to control access to your listings on a case by case basis, since most password-protection scripts require that all affected files be stored in a specific directory. Since you'd need to have listings created in different areas on the site, the only way I can think of doing this would be to use second installation of the software. Let us know if you have any other questions. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

That is what I was thinking too, but when the listings are finished they would need to be transferred from one installation to the other. Is there an easy way to do this so the data does not have to be entered twice?

Hi ozbuddy, There isn't really any way to easily swap data across installations short of copying and pasting - there's a danger of running into duplicate listing numbers and things of that nature. OK, what if we simplify our goal just a bit. We don't necessarily need to have a password protected area. I could do just about everything I want using multiple publish listing templates. It is my understanding though that if you have multiple templates set-up, then each time you publish a listing, multiple .html pages will be created for that listing. Is there a way to set it up so that it creates one or the other and not both? That way I could put a code on the template for the "lisings in progress" to tell search engines not to categorize that page, but the "completed listings" would still show up in search engines.

Hi ozbuddy, When using custom templates multiple files are not actually created - instead, the search engine is used to load a custom template to view the listing. So you might be able to achieve this just by having the appropriate code on your custom template file, or since no extra files are being created search engines may not index these at all. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
