Problem Setting Up.... Can't Post

is it just me or is anyone else find the instructions at:
http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/realtymanager/
lacking?

1. What permissions do I have to set on the specific folders?
2. Do I have to change the perl paths in any of these scripts?
3. How do I start to run the the backend so that I can set it up the fields needed so that I can enter the info?

This and any other info on setting this up would be greatly apprecieated..

Hi Mediajuggle,

Thanks for your post. We have been trying to find time to revamp our documentation for Realty Manager, so your comments are duly noted! :-)

Let me run through your questions:

(1) Take a look at this page of the helpdoc: http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/realtymanager/doc_page5.html. Steps 4 and 5 denote the permissions for the specific directories.

(2) Yes, you'll have to verify that the path to perl is correct for each .cgi script in your /exec directory (see step 2).

(3) This has just been added to my list of tutorials! :-)

To explain how to do this, how about I just give an example, and hopefully you'll be able to see how the whole process works. Of course, just post back if you have more specific questions concerning what you're trying to do.

1. Create a new listing field called Rental (,Yes,No)

This can be done by going to the "Setup Options" --> "Setup Listing Fields". Find a spare listing field where you can add this. In this example we'll use field #25. Enter in the following: Rental (,Yes,No) - select drop down as the field type- make sure to click the "Active Field" check box.

Now, whenever you (or your client) inputs a new listing, that new field will appear in the listing editor page - used to input the listing.

2. Create some bogus data in your "Listing Editor" create some listings as rentals and some as not.

3. Now you'll need to update your html templates used to create your actual webpages. To do this, you need to open them up in a text / html editor, and add a reference to your newly created database field.

So, if you wanted the new Rental information to appear in the listings details page, you'd do the following:

Open up _publish_listing.html, stored in your /templates directory. Here, at an appropriate spot in the html, add:

Rental $lfield25$

This will write "Rental" and the value of that database field (#25) to the page.

Finally, after you make any changes to a template file, you'll reupload the file, then go into Setup Options and click the appropriate publish button. In this case, you'll want to "publish listings". Click that, then see you changes on your site!

The following link explains the various templates, and how they correspond to the published pages on your website. http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/realtymanager/doc_page6.html

I do hope this helps. Post me back with any questions you might have :-)
