Live or Non-Live Option

Is there a way to make a listing non-live. I am aware that you can disable a user which prevents them from logging in however it does not prevent their listings from being viewed. Is there a way other than erasing a listing to prevent it from being viewed? This would be a good future feature if there is not a way to accomplish this. The reason I want to do this is because I run a FSBO site. The odd time I have a homeowner who couldn't sell their home list with a realtor. The realtor often requires the listing to be removed from all fsbo sites. The problem is that if I remove the listing and let's say it's listing number is #0034 but I currently have 135 listings on my site, the next new listing added will be given the listing number of the erased listing (#0034) rather than #0136. This becomes an issue when you have signs distributed throughout the country with listing numbers on them. Thanks in advace for the help Matt

Hi Matt, Yes, this feature has been requested a lot! As is, there's no control allowing the Admin to have control over whether or not a listing is live or not - at least, not an option which overrides the listing's status, so that it will never be shown. I understand your need for this, and we've added it to our feature request list. In your situation, I'm having trouble thinking of a workaround. First, I thought that perhaps you could leave the listings in the database, but change the contents of each saying "GONE!" (or something perhaps a little more elegant). But this would inevitably fill up your database and slow down your site; so you'd have to manually delete old 'Gone' listings a month or two after they've been 'deleted'. Secondly, (and this is a better solution) perhaps you'd be willing to change the way you're referring to the listings? I realise this is always a pain, considering you've already established a way to refer to them. But if you'd be willing to consider this, you could instead create a new field called "Listing Number", which you'd manually enter for each listing. Then, configure your search engine to include a new field: "search by Listing Number". This would provide people a way to locate a specific listing; if you were to remove it, it would simply return "no search results found". Would something along these lines be acceptable? Ben, In my case the solutions you mentioned do not really help. I guess I'll have to wait for the next release. I do have the option to search by listing number which is a field I created. The problem is that I also have the option on my front page to search for all listings within a certain area and the listings would still show up threw this search. Thanks anyway. Matt
