Listing Editor templates?

Pre-sale question, please... I was curious if the listing and homepage editor pages are templates? I'm considering using RM to set up a free listing sevice, and ideally I'd like to be able to place some paid banner ads within these admin pages. Thanks.

hornseby, I don't work for ITools but I use RealtyManager. If I understand your question, you want to be able to have users who are inside the admin function, while adding free listings to your system, have ads presented to them from inside the actual admin program. I don't think that can be done. What you can do however is change the templates that are used to output listings to show whatever you want in the listings themselves. You'd have to update it when you wanted the ad to change or you might even be able to pull the ad in from an external page with some javascript so that it could rotate or change without having to redo the template. I also suspect, but don't take my word for it, that you could frame the admin program on a page with a small header at the top which could contain your banner ad or whatever while the admin program would be directly below. You'd have to verify that with someone who knows more about it though. Steve

Hi guys, Thanks for your response Steve! Though actually it is possible, but not recommended to modify the interface. With the current version of Realty Manager (2.28) the product interface is found in the interface.dat.cgi file, and technically can be edited for whatever you want... however, I wouldn't suggest it. Here's why: - Any future upgrades you make to the software will overwrite your existing interface. This is necessary, unfortunately, in order to make any new features available to you. - The next release of Realty Manager (2.29) will have actual html templates for the interface. This will greatly ease the process of modifying specific interface pages. The existing interface.dat.cgi is a pretty whopping file, and hard to edit. This next release is currently being QA'd. I hope this helps. :-) Ben interactivetools.com

Thank you Ben and Steve . . both very helpful. Ben, I know better than to ask when the next version will be available, but "QA'd?" - does this mean quality assured? In your past experience, is this QA a process that usually takes a) 2-6 weeks, b) 6-12 weeks, c) 12 weeks or more, or d) Homesby, you know better than to ask about the timing our our updates! Also, will 2.9 include mysql and auto thumbnail support, or are these v3+ features?

Hi homesby, Yes, "Quality Assured" - sorry, that phrase slips becomes second nature after a while and slips out unthinkingly. :-) If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say 2-6 weeks, but I know there's a lot to go over - thumbnailing is planned for those with GD or ImageMagick server extensions, but it's entirely possible it may be put off 'til a later release if it doesn't pass QA (no MySQL just yet). And thanks for your understanding concerning release dates. :-) Ben interactivetools.com
