Forbidden Error after login cannot save data

I have a client using Listings Manager and I cannot duplicate the problem they are experiencing. The client can login OK, but when she enters data and clicks save, she gets a "Forbidden - you are not authorized to..." error message. I have her set up as a regular user and she has been adding/editing all data ok up until two days ago. She says she has not made any changes to her computer. I can login, using her username and password and have no issues. Can anyone direct me as to what might be the problem and how we can solve it? Thanks, Marsha

Hi Marsha! Check to see if she has a firewall. It may be filtering out what she's able to submit to the site. If so, try turning it off temporarily and try it again. Donna

Yes, the client has disabled the firewall but still gets the error message: FORBIDDEN You don’t have permission to access /cgi-bin/listman/exec/admin.cgi on this server. Apache/1.3.37 Server at theirdomain.com Port 80 Can anyone help with this. Do you think it might be their isp causing the problem? Marsha

OK, we found the problem, but not sure why it is happening. I have a text field set up and when the client enters a word starting with a Captial C, A, or T and tries to save the data, then she gets the forbidden error message. Anyone know why this is happening? Does the Shift Lock or Shift key cause a difference in how the browser renders the code? Please reply. Marsha

Hi Marsha, It sounds like a certain security module that some servers have installed could be interfering with the software - if you submit a support request with FTP details we can run some tests on this for you: https://www.interactivetools.com/support/email_support.cgi I look forward to hearing from you. ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com

Weird, I am fighting this same error. I can't reproduce here, and I'm at a different location. First one machine (IP) got the error, so I had her try to use another machine (different IP). It worked for a while, now the same error. Letting things settle overnight didn't help. Same message this morning. I've got a ticket in to the ISP to see what they have going. Smells like a security issue there (accesses to CGI-BIN)... Will post details once I hear back. Any other ideas? Thanks! --Jeff

Okay... I'm at a loss... My ISP is starting to get mad at me over this... They insist it's file permissions. That would not be the case, right? I can do the tasks - just not on my clients machines... Any help is appreciated! Thanks! --Jeff |

Hi Jeff, 403 or "Forbidden" error messages almost always mean that the permissions are set incorrectly on the files you're trying to access. This kind of error also shouldn't appear on different computers on a case by case basis. Just to clarify - does this message appear when your client adds a listing, or when she tries to go to the login page? If it appears when content is being added, chances are a security module on the server is interfering with the script. We can disable this module for you if you submit a support request: https://www.interactivetools.com/support/email_support.cgi Don't hesitate to contact us! ----------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Jake Swanson - Product Specialist support@interactivetools.com
