Exporting Data
Can't Post
Looking for a way to export data for use in other online auto and or Real-Estate listing companies. Most of my clients require that the data in Auto Manager be sent up to Auto Trader. Trying to find a way to extract this data in text format. Example: Auto Trader requires that the data be e-mailed to them in a text file and the corresponding photos are FTP up to a holding area. Any ideas?????

Hi Richard, Precisely what format does Auto Trader want their text file data to appear in? Does it matter? What you could do is create a special template to display the data in an particular format, then just copy and paste from your browser into a text file. It would be nice to have this automated, but this solution (once set up) would still be quite simple to use. But concerning the images, unfortunately they will have to be manually re-uploaded via FTP. Ben interactivetools.com

Perhaps you can do this. 1.set up the printer friendly template to only include the data that you need exported for auto trader. 2. when you are at the website (via notebook with wireless) 3. click the button or link to open the printer friendly page. 4. in the browser go to File|SaveAs| and save the printer friendly version to a folder for that dealer. 5. Use this program below to convert to .txt format 6. once it is converted save that as a .txt for that dealer in their folder. not sure if theres a quicker way than that but it should work for now till we get a MySQL version of AM. Thanks for your comments, Joey! Richard - no, there's no prefab software written to "break-down" .dat files, since they can be in any format. Our particular dat file was written to store the information in a simple format for the Auto Manager program to understand. My solution above wouldn't work for you? Ben interactivetools.com
