Does anyone know if there is some Realty Manager software out there for developers to use while developing the site before it is moved for hosting? Thanks.

Hi jd8079, Thanks for posting! :) Most often Realty Manager is installed on the server even before any changes or modifications have been made to the program. It's usually installed in such a way that regular site visitors won't be able to view it because they won't know the URL required to access the listings, homepages, or search page. This gives you time to download the template files to your work station locally and begin making modifications, every time you make a change you can upload the modified template files overtop the original ones. Once everything is ready to go live you can provide a link from your homepage that points to your listings index page and/or your search form page. So regarding your question, are you referring to some type of development software you can use for modifying the HTML template files that come with Realty Manager? Luke Holzken Product Development

My guess is that he's not asking about how to develop. I think he's asking if it's possible to get a copy of the software to use on a development PC. That way, standard development and deployment practices could be followed without the developer getting pinged for the license fee as well as their client. I'm also VERY interested in such a possiblity. Thanks in advance for the response.

My interpretation is that hes asking if you can run the CGI locally while working, to avoid uploading onto a server via FTP everytime, which, depending on your web dev app, could be a huge pain in the butt! I'm using dreamweaver over ISDN (pain but I'm in a rural area) but luckily with DW you can instantly upload from within the app to web space, so its not to big a pain. I would guess the other option would be to setup IIS or a linux server on a local network, set the site path to the web space on the local server and away you go. As for having to buy 2 copies of the package, check this out but I seem to recall Luke telling me you can use your first license for your own demo and as a commercial version, so you can always develop on that. ok, so i guess the answer is (to my interpretation, at least)..... no, you can't download and install locally for development use unless you or your client have purchased the license. no big deal either way, i'd just like to start development if i can. p

That's correct. Keep in mind that we've got a 90-day, no hassle guarantee. So, if the project falls through, or you just want to return the software because it didn't do what you needed, that's no problem. Return it for any reason whatsoever.
