Using Articles titles in URL's

Hi All!
We're trying to get the title of our articles to be in the url of the article as opposed to the "default" naming that AM offers...
i.e.:
http://www.interactivetools.com/Classic_Products_Community_Support_Forum.html
rather than:
http://www.interactivetools.com/artman/publish/article_9472.shtml
we thought we could just change the <title> tags to <title>$art_name$</title> ... but that isnt workin...
any help would be appreciated!
