User account email?

What is the user's account email for? I haven't been able to find anywhere that makes use of this field. I thought that maybe there would be a "forgot password" feature, but there's not one.
The field is required though and also prevents duplicates from being added. Is there anywhere that this field is used?

It's not used for anything yet but we hope to add a "forgot password" feature in future that will make use of it.
