End User Help Docs? Can't Post

Do you all have some end user oriented help documentation on how to use the fields available in the CMS? I need something to use a starting off point for my client.

I went to http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/cmsbuilder/index.html and all the docs are more based on the Admin, not the day to day user.

Any help would be great.

Much appreciated!!

No, unfortunately we don't have anything like that yet.

I'm not sure exactly what we'd write up for that. Maybe some docs on the buttons in the wysiwyg and field types in the editor?

What would you like to see in future in that area, or what do you intend to create for your client?

Dave,
I will post a format of what I create for my client out here when I finish it. It may help illustrate what could be useful for basic information used over and over again.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug (or anyone else),

I'd be interested in seeing what you came up with here. Did you ever put something together on this? I need to do the same thing. Back when I was using Page Publisher, I had put together some instructions for the client based off the admin docs provided by Interactive Tools. I put this in a client site management area where I also put links to the various areas of the site they need to access regularly for page editing, calendar updating, email, stats, etc. This has kept us from having to answer simple usability questions by our clients on a constant basis - which used to the the case. Anyway, just curious. (Trying to save myself a bit of work here.) :-)

Thanks!

Jeremy

Here's something that you might be able to use as a starting point. I set up everything on our site so that only content can be edited by the clients and not the formatting. So everything is based on text fields and text boxes.

Help file URL: http://98.130.249.212/enduserhelp.php
Site URL: http://98.130.249.212

**SECTION EDITOR TEMPLATE WITH TEXT AS DEFAULT VALUES IS ATTACHED.**

All you need to do is to copy this file to your on-line cmsAdmin//data/schemaPresets/ folder and it will show up in the add section pulldown.

To change the name that appears in the pull down list - change the “menuName” value in the first section of the end_user_help.ini.php file.

I'd like to get some feedback, suggestions and additions.

Thanks,

Jerry Kornbluth

Jerry,

What a great post! Thanks so much for sharing how you've done this. This is a great help. I really like how you attached the section editor template. That gave me a great idea on how I can much more easily create new sections that are identical to sections I've previously set up. (Just by duplicating the ini.php file and renaming it. That'll be a huge time saver!

I also wanted to ask you, I noticed that in part of the help files you mention a “View Modified Web Page” button. Is this in CMS Builder? If so, I don't seem to have that in my version. That seems like it would be a very useful tool to keep people editing records from posting their work until it was ready for prime time.

Anyway, thanks again! If I make any additions or changes, I'll let you know in case it's anything that interests you. I sure appreciate it.

All the best,

Jeremy

Oops, that "modified web page" stuff was supposed to come out. It was based on a feature request that hasn't been implemented as yet.

Hope it comes out in the (near) future because it's scary having no approval process before modified pages go "live". All of your unintended indiscretions are there for the public to peruse.

There's also the conundrum of not being able to see a "hidden" record without taking it live. If it goes live, then at least for the time you're proofing it, it's not "hidden". Not a good idea for product announcements, upcoming special sales etc.

Maybe if we all push Dave and Co. they'll see the need.

Jerry
